Wild Fishing with Fish Morvern

Available Fishing

River Aline
The River Aline is a medium sized spate river which regularly produces wild Salmon, and Sea Trout. Fed by the White River, the Black River and the outflow from Loch Arienas, the river cascades towards the sea loch of Loch Aline for some 6 miles through the wildness that is the Morvern Peninsula. Easily fished with little wading required, all 20 names pools are readily accessible.

There is a small run of larger Spring salmon, followed from June onwards with the main run of fish. These are mainly Grilse, with the occasional Summer salmon. Best in 2006 was a lovely cock fish of 16lb

Sea Trout run the river throughout the season, but in April and May there is a run of very big fish, up to 16lb, probably the descendents of a Norwegian Strain introduced in the 60's.

A 6-8 weight single handed rod will suffice for most situations. In full Spate however it is sometimes wise to change to a 12/13 foot double handed rod.
Recommended flies are Ally's Shrimps, Silver Stoat, Munro Killer, Cascade, Blue Charm, Thunder Stoat etc.

Fishing on the River Aline for 2007 season is available for £25 per day

Lochs Arienas & Doire na Marst
These lochs both contain good natural stocks of Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout. Boats are available on both lochs, but fishing from the bank can be equally productive.

A feature of these lochs, particularly Loch Arienas, has been the number of very large Brown Trout caught. The record currently stands at 16lb ( 2005 ), and in 2006 a lovely hen fish of 12lb was caught on the dry fly !

General pattern loch flies are the norm, though there has been recent success using buzzers, and Sparkler flies.

Fishing on these lochs for 2007 Season is available at £7.50 per rod per day

Hill Lochs
In the rugged hills of Morvern 15 Hill Lochs offer unrivalled fly fishing for really wild Brown Trout. Not necessarily big fish, but fish that will give you a fight to remember. 1/2lb - ¾ lb is the norm, but larger fish have been taken particularly from Tearnait, the main Hill Loch which has produced fish up to 4lb.

Some are easily accessible after a walk of about 30 minutes. Some may take a little longer to reach. Every one is worth a visit, or why not make a day of it and fish three or four!

Fishing on the Hill Lochs is available for £5 per rod per day
